Davidson, Staunton, Virginia, reading, in part, "…I am using endeavors to extricate myself from debt, which it becomes me to do…my means & resources from western Va, where my lands are situated in consequence of the occupation of the country by the enemy's forces, of course have been cut off and upon which I have mainly relied for the extinguishment of my indebtedness…being out of business here except for a little farming and with little profit…I have the offer of a fair price for a couple of lotts in town which I can spare, bust as the pay will be in the currency of the Confederacy, before closing the sale I wish to ascertain if I could pay my bond to Cousin Rebecca Scott with the same. I thought it likely she would as soon have that to invest in Confederate bonds…" Overall very good condition.
