War-date letter signed "Nannie," 4pp. on captured Union patriotic stationery with an engraving of Marshall House proprietor James Jackson shooting Col. Elmer Ellsworth, 8vo, likely Fincastle, Virginia, December 5, 1863, to husband Private Charles Figgatt, Co. "B," 1st Virginia Cavalry, no location given, reading, in part, "…I cannot say there has been any great change in our precious little one, but what is, is for the worse…" The child, Meade, died two days later. Figgatt had earlier served as a clerk at Stonewall Jackson's headquarters. Light stains, very good condition.
