Confederate soldier's war-date letter, one page, 8vo, Point Lookout, Maryland, February 24, 1864, to E. G. Booth, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with original cover, reading in full, "Necessity has compelled me to write to you again to ask you to be kind enough to send me some more money. I heard from Capt. Jones and Lieut. Fitzgerald a few days ago. They were well. W. T. Fitzgerald and the other Nottoway Boys are well. By complying with the above request you will much oblige your friend, Cincinnatus Smith, Co. B, 7th Division Care of Capt Patterson Point Lookout, M.D." Philadelphia physician Edwin Gilliam Booth was Virginia-born and had two sons in the Confederate Army. Given his deep ties to the Old Dominion, Booth would offer material assistance to Confederate POWs whenever possible. Letter and cover in very good condition.
