A crass Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written, on patriotic stationery, by a private in Company I, 6th New York Cavalry, "Washington, [D. C.], Oct. 17, [61]" to Efner McNall who enlisted in the same regiment and company within days of getting this letter, in part: "…it must have been pretty sad news for William Lawrence's parents [&] folks to hear…o' it was awful…Efner you do not have more fun there then we do here for we get all the f--cking that is necessary. We got our pay and was glad to get it…I got 40 dollars. That is better than staying at home…". The original stamped patriotic transmittal cover (front panel only) cover is included. Both VG.
