Union soldier's war-date letter by Private Charles E. Fowler, Battery B, 1st Ohio Light Artillery, 4pp., 8vo, with patriotic cover, Camp Dick Robinson, Kentucky, to F. Marr, Cleveland, Ohio, reading, in part, "Edward…as I were a coming up from the river I met a cuple of scouts who had a curmish with the rebels and drove them off and kild eight of them I think we will have a big fight befour long at Comberlin gap whare thar is 5000 rebels…" Fowler, already a veteran of the Battle of Mill Springs, Kentucky, would next see serious action at Camp Wildcat and at Perryville, both in Kentucky. He would re-enlist in 1864 and live to muster out at war's end. The stamp is clipped form the cover, stains to the letter. Overall good condition.
