War-date Northern civilian's letter signed "C.G.R.," 4pp., 8vo, Washington, June 26 (1862), to his sister, n.p., reading, in part, "…Gen. Jameson is sicker than I anticipated finding him, quite delirious, and though I watched him part of last night, he did not recognize me…He is all the time away in Camp or on the battle field and it is painful to see his trouble. Then he loudly calls for one and another…So it was all night long, and he seemed to be suffering a thousand battles. The crisis is not passed with him and it is impossible to know what the result will be…We have a slave hidden here in the house, and if there is no way of getting him out of the way before I go home, I shall take him north as my servant…" Charles D. Jameson of Maine, after commanding the 1st Brigade of Kearny's 3rd Division at Fair Oaks, became afflicted with "camp fever" and died at home on November 4, 1862. Very fine condition.
