War-date Union soldier's letter signed "Thomas Watson" and "Cain Watson," 4pp., 8vo., with postal cover having Cairo, Illinois cds, September 15, 1862, to his father Thomas Watson, Alba, Iowa, reading, in part, "…while we was up at Boliver we had quite an exciting time we was threatened by a force of cavalry supposed to be eight thousand strong commanded by Price…we could hear the Cannons booming and meat Ambulances coming in caring dead and wounded from the front to the hospitals in Boliver. But before we got out every thing was quit…we lost seven or eight killed and a good many wounded after finding they were through in their calculations…they sent one Regiment around to the North to tombs station some seven miles from Boliver to destroy a Bridge to cut off our communications in which they wear sucesful but not without getting hurt. They left one hundred & fifty dead in the Fields besides the wounded that they caried off…the Horrers of war ar auful how long will it be befor Peace is restored with all its blessings at present the cloud of war looks darker than it ever did…" Fine condition.
