Union solder's war-date letter by Corporal Samuel Ohmart, Co. "G," and "D," 69th Ohio Volunteers, 4pp. on patriotic stationery, 4to, Nashville,, Tennessee, July 6, 1862, to unknown recipient, reading, in part, "…Reason we don't git to fight is the rebels ar all afraid of the 69th tha would reather run Tha call us the ohio tigers…prison All full of prisoners we have All the preachers in Prison because tha wont take the oath and some of the secesh cavalry run into a bad snap The other day at murfersburrow Tha thought all our men had left thare but to thare great Surprise thare was some left Thar to watch thare was 60 secesh cavalry come in the pickeds That was out hid and left Them pass and then followed Them til in sight of the compeney then fired on them tha Wer surrounded before tha knowed it and had to give up And was brought to Nashville And lodged in prison…let me know what the General opinion is about the War…" Corporal Ohmart would die of disease in Nashville on October 26, 1862. Some tiny marginal splits, very good condition.
