War-date Union soldier’s Autograph Letter Signed by Carroll E. Kingsley, 7th Connecticut Infantry, 4pp. octavo, on George Washington patriotic stationary, Edisto Island, South Carolina, July 12, 1863, with “Townsend Rifles” regimental cover addressed to his mother, and reads in part: “...I am not in as much danger as you imagine so let your mind rest and not worry so much. We will come forth by and by, old broken down men able to take charge of a large family...The battle of the 11th was a horrid sight to see a fearful place to be altho we came forth, unhurt, how I done it I cannot tell but thanks to the Gods of battles that he has spared my life...We have received cheering news from McClernand, I hope we shall have it confirmed in the next papers we get...” Very good condition.
