Compensation For A Gettysburg School Building Used As A Hospital A great war-date Gettysburg attorney's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by David A. Buehler (1821-1886), as secretary of Board of Director's of the Gettysburg School District (1852-1867), Gettysburg, Pa., Oct. 21, 1863 to Surgeon Henry Janes of Camp Letterman concerning compensation for damages incurred at the The Union (Public) School during its occupation as a hospital after the battle of Gettysburg, in part: "Capt. The Union Public School was the primary public school used to educate the children of Gettysburg. At the time of the battle it enrolled nearly 400 students. These students were displaced from July 1 until September 1, 1863 while over sixty wounded Union cavalrymen were cared for there. Fine
