A good war-date Union Newspaper Editor's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written by P. L. Buell, "News Letter Office, Westfield, [Mass.], March 7, 1864, to Pvt. Milo Cooley, 27th Mass. Vols., in part: "…I mail you two copies of the News Letter…you will have to pay six cents postage, per quarter, at the Norfolk P. O. I send a paper to Capt. [John W.] Moore [WIA Petersburg, Va., June 18, 64] & to C. V. Hazzard. The army is a school of vice, but I trust you will 'shun the appearance of evil.' You are engaged in a glorious cause & I have a strong faith in the final triumph of the Union armies. The war may last for years, if it should be necessary to destroy slavery; but I think the severe fighting will be over in less than one year…". Also included is the original stamped transmittal cover. VG
