A great war-date Union field printed 27th Massachusetts Vols. broadside, 15 1/2" x 4 1/2", boldly entitled: "List of Company F, 27th Reg't Mass. Vol.", printed at "Washington, N. C., March 14, 1863." Personalized in period ink by Pvt. "Milo H. Cooley Esq., Washington, N. C." in the lower right corner. This broadside is very unusual since it is a roster, printed while the regiment was still in the field, listing all the members of the company including each man's rank and residence. Also included are lists of those who have resigned, been discharged, transferred, deserted and died up to March 14, 1863. Sadly, there are fourteen members of the company who have died since their enlistment in September 1861 including, one who perished a day before this broadside was printed, and those who fell in the battles of New Bern, N. C., and Roanoke Island. There are also two deserters listed with one being then under arrest. The 27th Mass. fought in many engagements while in service and fought at the battles of New Bern, N. C., Drewry's Bluff, Va., Cold Harbor, the siege of Petersburg and South West Creek, N. C. By the end of their enlistment the regiment lost nearly 270 men killed and wounded. Near fine.
