John A. Logan Letter Signed, one page on U. S. Senate letterhead, 4to, Washington, D. C., February 24, 1884, to L. Calhoun, Kerens, Texas, reading in a secretarial hand, "Please accept my thanks for the interest you have taken in my welfare. Of course I know that as a rule matters in the South are managed in a very different way than in the North they are accustomed to having them; but I trust that the people will take hold and for once speak for themselves." Logan, fondly known as "Black Jack," was a Union Major General and led Sherman's XV Corps at Atlanta and in the Carolinas Campaign. After the war Logan served Illinois in both the House and the Senate. This letter has expected mailing folds, else fine condition.
