Two post-war letters written by Col. Henry Casey, 4th Infantry, Kansas National Guard, 3pp., 8vo and 4to, Beloit, Kansas, September 18, 1888 and February 26, 1889, to Oliver Zimmer, Freeport, Illinois. Casey requests a copy of a group photo taken at Vicksburg when they served as drummers with the 15th Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. Included is a typed transcription of a newspaper story about Zimmer, making much of his being the youngest drummer to serve the war's duration. He enlisted in 1861 at 13, survived Andersonville and mustered out in 1865. Very good condition.
