A nice war-date CDV of New York Congressman Alfred Ely (1815-1892) who was captured in 1861 during the rout of the Union army from the battlefield of First Bull Run. He was imprisoned at Libby Prison, Richmond and held for nearly five months until exchanged for Charles J. Faulkner who was arrested in Paris, France and charged with buying arms for the Confederacy. The image is published by Mathew Brady, Washington with close cut borders, else VG.
