Autograph Note Signed By President “A.Lincoln” on the bottom of an autograph letter signed by his friend, Illinois Senator “O(rville) H(ickman) Browning.” The Browning letter in full, “I apply to have John Tillson of Illinois appointed a Captain in the army. He has been in active service as a Major ever since the beginnings of our trouble and is a most competent and deserving man, and a highly dedicated and intelligent gentleman. O.H. Browning.” Lincoln’s note follows, “I most cheerfully indorse the above application - A. Lincoln.” The Lincoln signature is dark and fine. This letter sheet is tipped into a Lincoln book, “Honest Abe": A Study in Integrity Based on the Early Life of Abraham Lincoln,” Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston, MA, 1917, 374 pp., 27 illustrations including Lincoln pictorial front panel, rebound in leather.
