1865 diary owned by a Hartford, CT area farmer, excellent. Contains numerous pencil entries pertaining to "stripping tobacco", planting, hog butchering, attending school district meetings, etc. The diaries owner, a Mr. S. Terry Wells, also makes entries of historical significance, in part: April 3...."State Election"...4/10...."Celebration of the capture of Lee's Army"....4/16...."President Lincoln died yesterday morning. Shot through the head by an assassin". The diary is in excellent condition with minor wear. Diary comes with a receipt for tobacco grown, dated January 26, 1865, a receipt for a subscription to an newspaper having a sermon written by Henry Ward Beecher, dated March 13, 1865, and a promise to pay the First Ecclesiastical Society $15.00 dated November 7, 1864. A nice Lincoln related diary.
