Cast brass, circa 1830s, maker's mark "RD - NY" on the back for Robert Dingee, New York, consisting of two linked discs, one with an American eagle and the other having "US" flanking crossed cannon tubes. 6" overall length; each disc, 1 ¾" diameter. An example is illustrated in O'Donnell & Campbell, AMERICAN MILITARY BELT PLATES, as Plate 245 on page 145. Untouched attic patina with traces of green verdigris. Fine condition.
