This extraordinary tin, 9”L x 6-1/2”W x 5-1/2”T, has curved corners, and is wonderfully decorated with eight graphic panels; "P.T. Barnum," "J.A. Bailey," "Bare Back Riding," "Performing Zebras," "Spanish Bull Fighting," “A Five Horse Tandem Hurrdle Race,” “Javelin Thrower,” “Death of Jumbo,” and the top decoration, “Chariot Race.” The lid is hinged. Once the lid is opened, there is a second lid with simple handle. Barnum and Bailey merged the first time in 1881 only to split in 1885. They came back together in 1888 remaining partners until Barnum’s death in 1891. Jumbo the Elephant died in 1885, thus placing this item 1881-85. Near fine.
