Partially printed letter, one page with integral address panel on verso, 8vo, East-India House, London, March 17, 1815, to Elizabeth Johnston, Falkirk, Scotland, reading, "Mr. James Coggen is sorry to acquaint Elizabeth Johnston in reply to her Letter of the 3rd ultimo addressed to The East India Compy that it appears by the Returns of the East India Company's Troops, that James Johnston who went out as a recruit in the Ship Airly Castle to Bengal in the Year 1807 died the 2nd of July----at Prince of Wales Island." Soiling, small area of loss from seal breakage, good condition.
