Republican Address.The Republican Members of the Legislature of the State of New York, to Their Constituents, Albany Argus Extra, April 18, 1820, one page, 18” x 20.” The legislative body here seeks to re-instate former governor Daniel Tompkins, currently Vice-President of the United States. This endorsement resulted from a scheme to have the unpopular Tompkins essentially switch places with Governor DeWitt Clinton, who was eying the Vice-Presidency in 1820. All backfired with both candidates retaining their offices and thus the status quo prevailed. Professionally matted and ready for framing. Stains and folds, else very good condition.
