Handbill, 4" x 5", excellent. Butler was a Union General during the Civil War. After the war be became a Congressman, serving in the late 1870's. He ran for Governor two times in the late 1870's, both times unsuccessfully. He did run and win in 1882. In 1884 he was a candidate for the Presidency on the "Greenback" party ticket, gathering 175,000 popular votes. A great piece with the combination of political campaign and photographic advertising. All Butler campaign material is scarce, especially early campaign material prior to running for President.
