A match was played at Hoboken between the Gothams and Empires .. in which Gothams scored 25, Empires 4 ...” ...plus, September 13, 1855, page two report, “Base Ball - A match will be played on Wednesday next at Newark between the marired and the single men of Newark Club ...” Chip at bottom causes 1” paper loss. ...plus, September 20, 1855, page two report, “Base Ball - The match game yesterday between the married and the singles of Newark Club was well contested and finally closed at dark being declared a draw ...
