A rare and fine content Letter Signed by London merchants “Blanchard & Lewis”, London, January 28, 1783. 1p. 4to., 7.5" x 9". Light creases, else fine condition. A printed letter intended for broad distribution among the many potential commercial contacts overseas, it optimistically reads:“As we have now the pleasing Prospect of a speedy return of Peace and Commerce, we take the Liberty of offering you our best Services here, when that happy event takes place; assuring you that any Business you may entrust to our care, shall receive the greatest Attention, and be executed with the strictest Fidelity and honor; and on as good Terms as by any House in this City -- Our Knowledge of the Trade of America, as well as of this country, enables us to transact Business in the best Manner: and the Character of our House is established here on the surest Foundations. -- For any particulars you may wish to be informed of, we take the Liberty to refer you to Mr. CALEB BLANCHARD of BOSTON, Father of our Caleb Blanchard, who is fully impowered [sic] to acct for us in America...” Caleb Blanchard was an active Boston merchant who was active from the 1760s through the 1780s dealing in a wide variety of imported articles from Britain. A wonderful piece evoking the optimism prevalent on both sides of the Atlantic in the closing days of the Revolutionary War.
