A complete and authentic issue of The Gentlman’s Magazine, February 1790, 102pp., disbound, near fine. From the interior, a lengthy and very detailed report running 1-1/4 pages. In small part, “The first that attracted the public notice, was a mutiny on board the Bounty, a ship which sailed from England, in the autumn of 1787, on a voyage to the society islands, for bread-iruit trees, in order to cultivate them in our West India settlements. Having completed the object of her voyage, the Bounty quitted Otaheite, on the 4th of April, 1789. ... at day-break on the 18th, the cabin of Captain Bligh, who commanded the Bounty, was forcihly entered by the officer of the watch, a lusted by three uttiers upon tlie waich, who dragged him instantly on the deck, menacing his life if he attempted to speak ... The Captain, in this dreadful situation, found his Boatswain, Carpenter, Gunner, Surgeon's Mate, two Midshipmen, and one Mallei's Mate, with Mr. Nelson the Botanist, and a few inferior officers, among those who were likely to share his fate. ... The leader of the mutineers is named Fletcher Christian; a man of respectable family anil connections, and considered 1 good seaman: he was of the rank of Master's Male of the Bounty, and served regularly ...”
