A war-date Confederate slave auction receipt, 1p. oblong 4to., Floyd County, Ga., Nov. 27, 1862 issued to former Confederate Surgeon Edward A. O. Ware for the sale of several slaves during the liquidation of his father's estate, in part: "…in accordance with the last will of Harrison L. Ware (deceased)…his executors exposed his slaves to sale…to the highest bidder and Edward A. O. Ware became the highest bidder for negro man Warren, his wife Lucy and their children Nathan, Jake and Scott for the sum of thirty eight hundred dollars…this is a receipt…to the said Edward for said amount…of said negroes…".
