A complete and authentic issue of the National Intelligencer 26, 1853, 4pp., disbound, slightly tanned. From the front page, a brief report “A Fugitive Slave Case” reports on “the case of George Smith ... on a charge of being a fugitive slave. ... The United States Marshal having refused to give up the alleged fugitive upon legal grounds, he (the Marshal) was taken into custody ...” Then from the interior a 1/3 column report “The Philadelphia Fugitive Case” is a more detail account of fugitive George Smith.
