A complete and authentic issue of the New York Tribune, April 28, 1860, 12pp., disbound, minor edge tears else VG. From the interior with column headlines, “Fugitive Slave Case in Troy,” “Great Excitement,” “The Man Rescued Twice.” In part, “..Deputy Marshall Holmes arrested a colored man .. named Charles Nullie as a fugitive from Virginia. ... an excited crowd of some one thousand persons ... threatening a rescue. ... the negro was carried to the river ... He was rowed across and upon arrival ... was rearrested. ... the mob surrounded ... then rescued the fugitive again ... carried him off in a carriage. ...” Then another strong report on the same page, “The Negro-Market in Savannah,” in small part, “...A rather old negro was first sold...v bidding ran up to $800 ... The rest of the Negroes broke out in shout because he had fallen into the hands of so poor a master. ..ery closely examined by a large number of people who looked to the condition of his joints & at his hands & teeth...was compelled to laugh once at hearing two negro boys quarreling as to which of their masters could flog best...The slave owner, in order to secure their slaves, keep them in small pens surrounded by high walls. ... Slave trading is a lucrative business. ...”
