A complete and authentic issue of the New York Tribune, May 14, 1863, 8pp., disbound, rough at spine. From the interior, “Fugitive Salve Case,” is a review of a Wahington DC case. In part, “Andrew Hall... negro boy claimed as an absconded slave ... The boy was taken here on a writ ..Chief Justice carter today said “...but the law will be executed ... The men who own this property are apparently dead to the love of country, and would give it for a nigger ...” ... plus, New York Tribune, May 23, 1863, 8pp., disbound, rough at spine. From the interior, “Fugitive Salve Case,” brief report of the Hall fugitive slave case whereby the fugitive was released to the contrband camp. Both newspapers are a little dingy, but this is an important case.
