A complete and authentic issue of the Frank Leslie’s Illustrated March 19, 1870, 16pp., disbound. Just an exceptionally stunning vertical center spread engraving, “The Promises of the Declaration of Independence Fulfilled. An Allegorical Picture Commemorative of the Passage of the Fifteenth Amendment to the Federal Constitution - ‘All Men equal Before the Law.’” The image shows Lady Liberty welcoming the emancipated slave into the hall of Justice. She is surrounded by Chase, Colfax, Sumner, Butler, Greeley and others. Behind this group is a lightly ghosted image of President Abraham Lincoln. In each corner is a vignette showing freedom to Blacks, Chinese and Native Americans.
