A good war-date Southern citizens contribution document appealing to their region's sense of patriotism to help cloth their soldier boys, 1p. folio, [Buffalo, S. C.], Oct. 24, 1861, in part: "We the undersigned promise to pay to the Treasurer of the Buffalo Soldier's Aid Society the sum set opposite our names…for the purpose of procuring suitable clothing for Capt. Taggart's Company [G, 14th South Carolina]…many of the soldiers are already needy and unless their wants are speedily attended to they must suffer. The cause is a noble one and the ladies therefore earnestly call upon all to contribute liberally…". Followed by a list of many loyal citizens who contributed over twenty-three dollars to the cause.
