A great collection of Confederate war-date documents and photographs related to the military career of Charles W. Hooper (?-1919), private 8th Georgia, 2nd lieutenant 21st Georgia Vols. and 1st lieutenant Gartrell's Company of Nathaniel Forrest's Cavalry escort, surrendered at Gainesville, Ala., May 11, 1865.Included is a copy of a war-date albumen of Private Charles W. Hooper in uniform inscribed on the verso that this is: "Chars. Worde Hooper, age 16…Uncle Charlie…he was my grandmother Ware's brother…"…PLUS; a war-date Confederate document, 1p. 4to., "Head Quarters, 8th Regt. Ga., Vol., Sept. 18, 1861", attesting to Charles Hooper's discharge from the 8th Georgia due to poor health signed by his company commander and future colonel John R. Towers, Surgeon H. V. M. Miller, Lt. Col. Thomas L. Cooper (accidentally killed Dec. 24, 1861) and Brigadier General SAMUEL JONES (1819-1887)…PLUS; a war-date Confederate manuscript pay document, 1p. oblong 4to., "Forrest Comd.' Feby. 8th 1865", issuing pay to, "1st Lt. C. W. Hooper, Gartrell's Co. of Forrest's Escort…". PLUS; a postwar photograph on cabinet card size mount, published by W. A.
