Autograph Letter Signed, "John H. Ford" 7th Texas Cavalry, 2p. quarto, Apolousas, Louisiana, April 13, 1863, and reads in part: "...I hear this morning that our boys and the Federals has had a fight at New Iberia but have not heard the results. We are not with our regiment now. Our company and Captain Hailly's company from Houston County are detached from the regiment to go on some gunboats down to the mouth of the Red River to engage the enemy boats that're there. I suppose they have 3 boats at the mouth. We are now scouting for conscripts and deserters until they get the boats ready. The woods is full of them down here. We have picked up a good many since we commenced gathering. We have had a fine time...We find some very clever people down here and some very mean ones. The ladies here are very kind...A great many of them fall in love with the Texas boys. I tell them all I like them very well, but I like the Texas girls the best..." About Good.
