A complete and authentic issue of Harper’s Weekly, March 23, 1861, 166pp., disbound, VG. From the front page, a full wood cut engraving, “Major Anderson’s Command at Fort Sumter” which identifies his staff. Captain Doublyday, Asst. Surgeon Crawford, Captain Foster, Captain Seymour, 1st Lieut. Snyder, 2nd Lieut. Meade, and 1st Lieut. Talbot. This engraving was created from a photograph by the prominent Charleston photographer George S. Cook. From the interior, there is a related article with biographies of these officers. Additionally, a 1/2 page engraving of the fort. Also a full page engraving “Surrender of Ex-General Twiggs ... to the Texan Troops in the Gran Plaza, San Antonio Texas ...” and second engraving of this surrender showing the Alamo in the background.
