A good war-date used Union soldier's bible owned by Sgt. Joel Hersh 6th Ohio Light Artillery. Leather bound, small 12mo., New Testament bible, printed by the American Bible Society, New York, 1861, inscribed on the inside front fore page: "Presented to Joel Hersh, Jr. 6th Ohio Lt. Battery, Camp Buckingham, Dec. 12th 1861, Mansfield, Ohio." On the back pages is inscribed: " "Joel Hersh 6th Ohio (ind.) Lt. Battery. This book was carried with the Army of the Cumberland 4 years and good use made of it of course. Chattanooga. Tenn."Hersh enlisted as a private in 1861 and rose through the ranks to 1st lieutenant in 1865 before he was mustered out of service. The 6th Ohio fought valiantly throughout the Civil War and participated in the battles of Stones River, Chickamauga, Dallas and Franklin, Tenn. Binding strong and solid, else VG toi near fine.
