A good war-date Union soldier's battle letter, 2pp. 8vo., written by Corp. William Seed, Co. A, 23rd New Jersey Vols., "On the Battlefield" [Fredericksburg], Dec. 14, 1862", in part: "…we have been 3 days under fire. Last evening we were engaged with the Enemy and lost nearly 100 of our men 6 or 7 of our company are wounded. We expect to be in again every moment our boys do very well…I am well and anxious for another chance. Remember me in your prayers…Sam is well and with the doctor as assistant. If spare[d] I will tell you more when the shells stop whistling overhead…". VG
