A good group of three (3) war-date Union soldier's letters, totaling 8pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. John C. Wilson, Co. I, 123rd Pennsylvania Vols., to Annie Given, reading, in part: "…[Tarentum, Aug. 14, 62]…our company is now here and will not return to camp…[Camp near Falmouth, Va., Jan. 18, 63]…the troops in our division and corps are in commotion on account of marching orders…our regiment was in the battle of Fredericksburg. they were…in the hottest part…their loss in killed & wounded will show. Our company lost 7 killed or have since died of wounds & 13 others wounded. Our noble capt was reported mortally wounded but is still living…it is hoped [he] will recover ( R. D. Karnes). (1st Lieut.) J. R. Coulter was killed on the field shot through the breast and fell like a hero. 2nd Lt. S. D. Karnes and orderly Sergeant Jas. E. Karnes were both among the wounded …Samuel Hunter, (one of your pupils) was slightly wounded in the forehead. Bob Hill…is discharged…we are now ready to move again…they have given us 60 rounds cartridges…it will be a forward move…[Camp Curtis, Harrisburg, Pa., May 13, 63]…I am again in the noble 'Old Keystone State'…on the morning of the 27th the Army of the Potomac was put in motion. The results & operations…have been published…we left old Dominion on the 7th inst…". Overall VG
