A nice war-date Union officer's letter, 1p. folio., written by Capt. Henry A. Wiley, Co. B, 104th New York Vols., "near Sharpsburg, Oct. 1, 1862", in part: "…I am next to Maj. Skinner in command…I recd a letter from Sarah…it is…about what Peter Fuller wrote…the only ones from our company that stayed and come off the field with me was Peter Fuller, Jackson McFail, John H. Scott, James Cullen & A. Mix. Tell Uncle John that I had John come with me…was one of the last to leave the field in the great battle of Antietam. No better blood ever ran in any man's veins than his. I went into the fight with 23 men, 5 were wounded…Capt. Tuthill was not killed only had two fingers shot off. Capt. Kelly was killed…I should have said that I sent some of the men off the field with the wounded…but curtain ones run like skunks. Some that I had thought better of…". VG
