Pair war-date Union soldier's letters, totaling 6pp. 8vo., written by Corp. Marshall P. Wood, Co. I, 9th New Hampshire Vols., Fredericksburg, Va., in part: "…[n. d.]…On Thursday which was Thanksgiving day…I felt pretty sad…for I wanted to be at home…I laid in my tent covered myself up in my blanket…and imagined you and Howard, Viola…and all the rest of dear ones at home…[Dec. 8th]…those gloves that Jane sent me are a very pretty pair. I hate to put them on…they will not last me long here handling a gun…it is tremendously cold out here in the Sunny South…the ground is froze hard as a rock. We have fixed up our tents as well as we can…it is hard to lay warm in them nights…there has a lot of teams gone to Washington to get some of those large tents…our Co. had to go out on picket…".
