A good war-date Union soldier's letter, 6 1/2pp. 8vo., written, on patriotic stationery, by Pvt. William Reese [DOD, Aug. 25, 62], Co. B, 103rd Penn. Vols., "[Yorktown, Va.], April 28, 1862", in part: "…[I] wish to go on fight the rebels so that we may return home…the news here now is that there will be peace before long. General McClellan has gone to Washington to meet the delegates from England and France that has came there to try to make peace between the north and the south and I hope that they may succeed…I got my fortune told and he told me that I would get home soon…we are in a very dangerous place here…we are not far from the rebels but they are so afraid of us that there is no danger of them attacking…General McClellan says that he is not afraid of all rebeldom…[April 29]…we have been called out about three o'clock this morning. We stood till daylight and now have orders to…march somewhere. They say to reinforce the men before us…that [is] Yorktown…". VG
