Fine original printed ballot for the UNION STATE TICKETfor the California state election of 1863. Vignette of US flag on a globe marked "Our Country." List of unionist candidates headed by Frederick F. Low for Governor. In the September 2, 1863 election, the Unionist candidates swept the Democrats. Low was elected Governor by 64,283 to 44,622 for his opponent J.G. Downey. Low won the soldiers' vote by an overwhelming 4159 to 140. Low previously served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives (1862 -1863) and served as governor of California from December 10, 1863 to December 5, 1867.
