A nice war-date Union officer's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Captain Norman Fox Weer [WIA Chancellorsville & MWIA Gettysburg, July 3, 1863 dying at Camp Letterman July 26, 1863], Co. E, 123rd New York Vols., "Arlington Heights, Va., Sept. 15, 1862." On finely illustrated patriotic stationery titled: "Desperate Bayonet Charge at Battle of Winchester, March 23, Led By Gen. Tyler." In part: "…Tuesday morning we were on drill and the Col. [Archibald L. McDougall DOW Dallas, Ga., June 23, 1864] came on the ground and ordered us to our quarters…the orders were to strike tents. They were all down in 13 minutes…we marched five miles…we marched through the city to [the] Long Bridge crossed over the Virginia soil and on to Camp Chase. It is a thundering rough place it is where the Rebels cut down the trees but a short time since. There is 60 men detailed to clear off the ground for our drill ground…the ground is covered with men. On the south…is a large Ft. with their guns pointing in every direction from 24 to 140 pounders…". VG.
