A good war-date Union officer's letter, one page, 4to, with postal cover, written by Lt. William H. Mickle, Co. I, 134th New York Vols. (future staff officer for chief of artillery 11th & 20th Corps and captain of Co. B), "Camp 134th Regt. N.Y. S. Vols. Near Brook's Station VA June 11th, 1863," in part: "…we are under 'Marching Orders," yet I hardly think we will move from here as yet. Our object is to keep the Rebs in Fredericksburgh so that they cannot reinforce Pemberston at Vicksburg. God speed the day when Vicksburg & the whole South shall be ours & Peace reign supreme in all our land. Capt. Yates has resigned & goes home to morrow. Our Col. I fear will go into another department and we shall lose him. The boys feel badly about it…Last night I was on 'picket' & feel dull & sleepy to day, therefore you must not ask much of a letter this time…" VG
