A good war-date Union officer's letter, 2pp., 4to, with postal cover, written by staff officer for chief of artillery 11th Corps Lt. William H. Mickle, 134th New York Vols. (future captain of Co. B), "Headquarters Artillery 11th Corps, Mountsville VA, July 21st 1863," in part: "…we are again in Va. Pursuing the flying Rebels as they move toward Richmond. Our cavalry & Flying Artillery are constantly falling upon their rear, making sad havoc among their trains &capturing many prisoners. Whether the whole army will advance to Richmond, I cannot say but we will doubtless go as far as Warrenton and Gordonsville…My new position is so much easier & nicer than when I was connected with the Infantry that I feel as if at home…most of my time is employed writing 'Official business'…If I get out of this place during the season I think I will not go back into the Infantry again…" VG
