A good war-date Union officer's letter, 4pp., 4to, with postal cover, written by staff officer for chief of artillery 11th Corps Lt. William H. Mickle, 134th New York Vols. (future captain of Co. B), "Office A.A.Q.M. Artillery 11th A.C. Bridgeport Ala., March 3rd, 1864," in part: "…I must go to Nashville (123 miles) this afternoon & get some checks cashed in order to 'pay off' my Darkies…no signs of our moving from here now. Cannot tell when My Departments are doing finely; major has not returned from Nashville, but Lt. Freeman sends his compliments. The darkies are as jolly as ever & everything moves finely…: VG
