A nice war-date Union soldier's letter, 6pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Edgar B. Bennet, 1st Conn. Hvy. Artillery, "Hen House near Fort Richardson, Va., Mar. 8 & 9, 1864", in part: "…I am on guard at the hospital and we are quartered in an old Negro shanty what we call the hen house…today is going to be a big day with the Regt. The flag that is to be presented to the 1st Conn. is going to be presented today by the governor and the A. A. A. General of the State of Conn…Dangherty has just…heard the sound of a female voice which he says sounded so queer to his ear he cannot help stopping me from writing…it is the kind hospital lady…". Also included is the original stamped transmittal cover and several small swatches of the 1st Connecticut's regimental flag which was broken up after they war. Overall VG.
