A colorfully printed postwar check signed "C. D. Fredricks", Manufacturers & Merchants Bank, New York [City], Dec. 7, 1870 issued to the firm of Cook & Reid for $200.00. CHARLES D. FREDRICKS (1823-1894) early American photographer who began his career as a daguerreotypist. He championed the use of the carte de visite as a form of photography in 1859. Throughout his career Fredricks helped preserve the likenesses of many famous Americans and world military and political leaders alike. He had studios in New York and Paris. His images are among some of the best in today's marketplace. Near fine.
