Large 4 1/2" x 11 1/2" campaign ballot for Governor of Massachusetts in 1879. Butler had been a Civil War General and Congressman before running for Governor. He ran and lost in 1878, and then ran and lost again in 1879 on the "National Greenback" ticket, which campaign this ballot is from. The ballot has a large image of Butler surrounded by the party name. Below is listed his Lieut. Governor, Sec. of State, etc. There are blank spaces for local candidates to be added from local towns for Sheriff, County Commissioner, etc. A wonderful display piece, fine with some light age.
