A great war-date, ca. 1864, albumen photograph, measuring approx. 7 1/4" x 4", mounted to larger period board, entitled: "Banks' Army Crossing the Atchafalya, May the 20, 1864.", engraved by J. W. Milton and photographed by E. Moses. The above rendered army crossing marked the end of Union General Nathaniel Banks' Red River campaign in which his object was the capture and occupation of Alexandria, La. This event actually occurred one day before the date noted in the photograph on May 19, 1864. Overall VG to fine.
