FUCHIDA, MITSUO (1902 - 1976) Japanese naval air officer who commanded and personally led the first wave of the attack on Pearl Harbor; he also helped develop the disasterous attack on Midway. A fine association piece, a postal cover honoring the U.S. Navy canceled aboard the USS WHIPPOORWILL at Pearl Harbor on March 18, 1940, upon which is affixed Fuchida's rare signature: "Capt. Mitsuo Fuchida" along with some Japanese writing which we assume is a second signature in Japanese characters .. While Fuchida led the fust attack on American soil in World War II, the envelope itself is-additionally signed by james h. doolittle (1896-1993), the American aviator who gained fame as the leader of the first attack on Japanese soil (Tokyo) during World War II ! Very good.
